Individualized Care
We specialize in serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and creating person-centered programs that combine personal choice and community integration with professional oversight, family involvement and stability.
History & Vision
For nearly four decades, REM has been a leader in developing home and community-based services—helping thousands of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other complex challenges live and receive services in natural settings. The organization was founded in 1967, when it opened its first community-based group home in Minnesota for individuals who were then leaving the state’s developmental centers. Since then, REM has been a driving force in the creation of community-based programs and has developed a coordinated network of services and supports throughout the country.
Our Values
As a pioneer in the human services industry, REM quickly grew from its roots in Minnesota to a multi-state provider offering a range of services and supports. Building on our success in Minnesota, REM opened its first home in West Virginia 1988 and has continued to expand our programs for more than two decades. REM West Virginia is proud to be a trusted provider for families, community partners and funding sources helping individuals live life to the fullest in the community. Today, REM West Virginia continues to respond to the complex needs of our communities by seeking new and innovative approaches to service delivery.
Together We Are Better
In 2003, REM partnered with The MENTOR Network, now Sevita, a national network of local human service providers. With an extensive history of combined service experience, The MENTOR Network and REM joined together to offer an even greater array of options for people with disabilities. As we continue to grow, our commitment to the people we serve remains our first priority. Ours is a network of shared values and resources—a nationwide team of professionals determined to help every individual thrive in a community setting through innovative, flexible programs. Together, these professionals are delivering some of the most responsive and creative human services in the country.
